99m-Tc-MIBI (Cardiolite)

The isocyanide ligand

This cationic, organometallic 99mTc compound with six isocyanide ligands is used for heart perfusion examinations. The ether substitution in the ligand ensures optimal uptake and retention of the phamaceutical in the heart muscle.

This compound with an affinity for the heart is a relatively small, lipophilic cation. The radioactive metal is in the oxidation state +1 and is found in an octahedral coordination environment.
